Sevilla FC: Europa League's Favorites

UEFA Europa League is the second-tier European club football tournament, above the UEFA Europa Conference League and below the UEFA Champions League. Since 1971, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has organized the UEFA Europa League, an annual club tournament for qualified European football teams (also abbreviated as UEL or UEFA EL). It replaced the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup when it was first introduced in 1971 as the UEFA Cup. Prior to the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup's discontinuation in 1999, the third-tier tournament was the UEFA Cup, which is why it is still frequently referred to as the "C3" today. Based on their results in their respective national leagues and cup tournaments, clubs earn a spot in the competition.

The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was disbanded as a distinct tournament in 1999 and combined with the UEFA Cup. A group stage came before the knockout stage starting with the 2004–05 season. Following a format modification in 2009, the contest was given its present name. In 2009, the tournament underwent a rebranding that featured a merger with the UEFA Intertoto Cup, resulting in an enhanced competition structure with an extended group stage and modified qualification standards. The victor of the UEFA Europa League advances to the UEFA Super Cup and, as of the 2014–15 campaign, also advances to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the next year.

In the UEFA Europa League's history, the most successful clubs are from Spain, with 14 triumphs, followed by teams from England and Italy, each with nine victories. 29 clubs have claimed the trophy, and 14 of those have done it more than once. Sevilla is the most successful club in the league, having won seven championships, the most recent of which was in 2023.

Seville, the capital and largest city of the autonomous region of Andalusia, Spain, is home to Sevilla Futbol Club(Sevilla FC), a professional football team that plays in Spain. It competes in La Liga, the first division of Spanish football. The team has maintained a 100 percent of win rate in the Europa League Finals by winning seven out of seven finals in the competition.

They won their seventh Europa League title by defeating Jose Mourinho's Roma in the finals on penalties by 4-1 in the 2022-23 season of UEFA Europa League. Before penalties, the final score was 1-1. For AC Roma, the Argentine footballer, Paulo Dybala scored the goal in 35 minutes and the goal for Sevilla FC was an own goal scored by another AC Roma's'player, Mancini in the 55 minutes of the game. There was not an easy path for Sevilla FC to reach and win in this season's Europa League final. In order to get to the finals, they defeated the English giants, Manchester United with a score of 5-2 on aggregates in the quarter-finals of the competition. In the semi-finals, they faced Italian giants, Juventus FC and won 3-2 on aggregates.

Before meeting Sevilla FC in the finals of the European League competition, Mourinho, as a manager had never lost a European league finals in his managerial career. He had won five out of five European league finals. However, after his side got defeated by Europa League's favorites, Sevilla FC, his streak of winning every European final he reached as a manager got broken. Sevilla FC has maintained its legacy as the most decorated team in the UEFA Europa League Competiton with seven titles. The team has won every final in which it has participated in this competition. With Sevilla FC being the most decorated team in the UEFA Europa League, the other Spanish team, Real Madrid is the most decorated team in the UEFA Champions League history.
